START HEREFlags are instructions, not decoration
Flags and digital light panels communicate immediate information to drivers. They can warn of danger, tell drivers that the track is clear, stop a session, signal that a faster car is approaching or communicate a sporting instruction that must be obeyed.
YELLOW, RED, GREENThe three signals every fan should recognise
Yellow means danger and requires drivers to slow, with overtaking restricted. Red stops the session or race because conditions are not suitable to continue normally. Green tells drivers that the track is clear again after the relevant hazard or restriction.
MORE SIGNALSBlue, black and chequered
Blue flags manage approaching faster traffic and lapping situations. A black flag disqualifies a driver and orders them to stop competing, while the chequered flag marks the end of the session or race once the cars reach the finish.
